Where hotel guests plant trees

Since joining the Hotels for Trees initiative late 2022, we’ve seen an annual increase in guest participation. The ease at which our guests can participate and choose to contribute to a greener world is met with great enthusiasm. Resulting now in an average of ~1000 trees planted per month and since joining close to 18.000 trees. Being a Green Globe Platinum Member (certified for ten consecutive years), this initiative is not only a presentation of our own sustainability achievements but also resonates very well with today’s eco-conscious traveller.

Sustainability is one of our core pillars; we strive to be a place of inspiration, where luxury and sustainability go hand in hand. That’s why we’re proud partners of Hotels for Trees. Since joining, 25% of our guests choose to participate. The collaboration adds an extra layer to the guest experience. Planting a tree is symbolic: representing growth, long‑term thinking, and a meaningful choice. It’s proof that sustainability doesn’t sacrifice comfort. Every tree planted contributes to a healthier planet, and together we make hospitality a force for good.

We’ve been working with Hotels for Trees for about three years now, and it’s been such a great experience. Our guests and staff have responded very positively, and it’s great to see how much they appreciate the sustainability effort. Joining Hotels for Trees is easy: just hang the tag visibly if you’d like to skip room cleaning. You save time and make a bigger impact: for each skipped service, we plant a tree. That’s why we mention it both at check-in and in the room, to engage our guests. Thanks to Hotels for Trees, we’ve planted over 8,000 trees in three years. Before I started working at the Radisson Hotel & Suites, I was not familiar with Hotels for Trees. I’ve noticed that many of our guests value it, and instead of choosing a drink or points, they are more likely to opt for planting a tree. A few of my colleagues and I also go out to plant the trees ourselves, and we share this with our guests. They really appreciate it, and so far, we’ve already planted 2.496 trees. Personally, I think it’s a fantastic initiative, and we will definitely continue with it!

At Pestana Amsterdam Riverside, our partnership with Hotels for Trees since November 2023 has been a resounding success. Over the past 1.5 years, we’ve received a lot of positive feedback from our guests who appreciate the initiative of waiving cleaning services in exchange for planting trees. An impressive 32% of our stayover guests have chosen to plant a tree at least once during their stay, contributing to a healthier planet. This initiative has not only positively influenced our cost structure but also enhanced our guests’ perception of our sustainability efforts. It’s truly a win-win!
