A wildfire destroyed a large area of the landscape surrounding the Aurunci Mountains Park in Esperia. By assisted natural regeneration, nature is naturally restored. This method is carried out through tree sead spreading, protection of plantings against livestock grazing and fire prevention measures. Species being planted include: downy oak, holm oak, rowan, cherry and blackberry and raspberry shrubs. Next to that, this location has a historic story. Back in the second world war, during the liberation, many atroceties took place in this area. Because of this, many women fled into the woods. This has created a deep emotional connection to this place. Throughout the region, monuments are placed with a connection to women that are seen as protectors of the woods (the dryad”.
