The Amsterdam Metropolitan Region faces big challenges: climate change, declining nature and water quality, loss of biodiversity, and pressure for more housing. Farmers are struggling, and people want more green spaces to relax. At the same time, the Dutch Forest Strategy calls for more trees.
Together with De Groene Stelling and Trees for All, we are planting trees to make the Amsterdam Metropolitan Region greener and more biodiverse. Across this 25,000-hectare area — including cities like Amsterdam, Haarlem, and Purmerend — thousands of trees and shrubs will be planted over the next few years.
Local projects are supported by planting forests, hedgerows, food forests, and more. These green spaces help capture CO2, cool the environment, boost biodiversity, and create peaceful nature close to the city.
De Groene Stelling is bringing together residents, farmers, businesses, and organizations to build a climate-resilient landscape — with room for nature, sustainable farming, recreation, and climate solutions.
