Trees planted

Trees are being planted at three different locations within the area. The surrounding forest is currently quite uniform, dominated mainly by coniferous (evergreen) species. Introducing a variety of deciduous trees will help restore ecological balance and breathe new life into the forest, while also providing a significant boost to biodiversity. The species being planted include copper beech (Fagus sylvatica f. purpurea), wych elm (Ulmus glabra), hornbeam (Carpinus betulus), wild cherry (Prunus avium), and sycamore maple (Acer pseudoplatanus).

One of the sites is currently overrun by ferns, which obstruct natural forest regeneration. Planting deciduous trees here will gradually change the growing conditions. As these new trees mature, they’ll provide more shade, which will naturally suppress the ferns and allow other vegetation to thrive.

Some of the damaged or dead trees are intentionally being left in place. This dead wood, in combination with the new plantings, will enrich the soil and support the development of a more resilient forest ecosystem.

Forest management is being carried out by a local non-profit organization with decades of experience in sustainable forestry and ecosystem restoration.
