The Leeuwarderbos was established in the late 1990s and has since grown into a large forest covering 150 hectares. Although the forest is not very old, many poplar trees were planted there, and after 40–50 years these trees are now due for replacement. The municipality aims to transform parts of the forest into a future-proof and climate-resilient woodland with a wide variety of native deciduous tree species. Other sections will be left to develop naturally, while part of the existing poplar forest will be preserved. This will create a diverse forest where visitors can fully enjoy nature.
Together with Trees for All, we will contribute to this project.
