In Myponga, the Forktree Project – run by SA’s Australian Of The Year 2024 Tim Jarvis – is returning 133-acre degraded former pastoral property in South Australia’s Fleurieu Peninsula back to nature. Since the project started in 2019, it involved re-establishing tens of thousands of native trees and shrubs on the property and encouraging natural regeneration to occur.
With your help, many more trees and shrubs will be added to the property, which is bringing back native animals including kangaroos, bandicoots, many insects and birds as well as sequester tens of thousands of tonnes of carbon. The native trees and shrubs are grown in their own nursery. Planting season is approximately between May and August.
