TreeProject

Founded in Victoria, Australia, in 1989, TreeProject began with an idea from co-founder Maggie McLeod: to plant one million trees. With the support of a dedicated volunteer network, this goal was achieved within 15 years.

Today, TreeProject connects urban volunteers with rural landholders and Landcare groups. Its volunteers grow indigenous trees, shrubs and grasses from seed in their own backyards. The resulting seedlings are supplied at cost to landholders who use them in revegetation projects.

Through this community-based approach, TreeProject supports the reintroduction of indigenous vegetation to degraded land across Victoria. Its work includes helping landholders address soil erosion, improve soil and water quality, and restore local ecosystems.

Since its beginnings, TreeProject has sown more than two million trees, demonstrating how a shared commitment and practical community involvement can support local revegetation efforts.
